Let's get personal for a minute and talk about birth control. There are so many methods and choices out there so what works best and what would be most pleasing to God? That's a weird question right? What kind of birth control would please my Heavenly Father? I'm laughing as I'm typing this!
So...
I've taken the Depo Provera shots and I would never recommend them to anyone. It took me 4 years to get pregnant with Hannah and, though I can't prove it, I blame it on the Depo shots.
After I had each of my beautiful babies, I used the Progesterone Only Pill (or the mini pill) while I was nursing. My doctor said that nursing wasn't 100% effective and what did I know?
Once Sam was weaned I switched to regular birth control pills. Even though I wasn't thrilled about using birth control I didn't really know what else to do. Most doctors push b.c. and I hadn't researched alternative methods.
Then my wonderful friend Lindsay started using the Ovulation Method and told me all about it! This is the best form of birth control ever!!
To begin, I read through Love & Fertility by Mercedes Azure a few times. She teaches an easy, natural form of family planning based on the signs that a woman's body gives each month (indicating that it's fertile). The best part is that you can use this method if you want to get pregnant or if you want to avoid pregnancy. She gives clear instructions and guidelines on what to do for each as well as for when you're nursing, going through menopause and when you're cycle is irregular.
Just a Quick Overview
Your body produces mucus when you are approaching the fertile days of your cycle. Your body needs this to protect and nourish the egg when it's released. This mucus will change as your fertile days progress. So you know by your mucus when it is the best time to have "sexual relations" to achieve pregnancy (or which days to avoid relations so as to not get pregnant). All you have to do is pay attention when you use the bathroom. It's a little more complex than what I've just described but it's not complicated at all. You would have to read the entire book and all of her guidelines to understand completely.
So, last September I stopped taking birth control pills and started practicing this Ovulation Method. I was a little nervous at first and always erred on the side of caution when I wasn't sure. Now I'm to the point that I know without a doubt what I'm doing. I can just about tell you when I'm going to start fertile days, how long they will last and when my period is about to begin. My cycles hadn't been regular before I started this method but now they are. I will also know immediately if something is wrong with my body and I won't just assume it's a side affect. Plus, when Bobby & I decide to have another baby we don't have to stop using a pill or wait. We know when the best time to try will be. It's just that simple.
This method is so easy and it has to be the best for your body. Consider this as well, God created your body. I'm sure it pleases Him when you understand and appreciate it's complexity.
